I was digging through some of my old files, trying to get them into a better semblance of order, when I came across this story which I'd obviously saved years ago; considering it was written in 1996, who knows, I might even have archived it then. But fortunately for the world at large, this story is still available on the alt.drwho.creative archive as well as on R.J. Anderson's archive (which I now think is where I got it from). It's worth reading. The opening hooks you in, and makes you wonder -- why is this guy so depressed... and why does he want to kill the Doctor? The first-person narrative gives this an immediacy, and when you, the reader, realize who is behind it all, you feel like shaking the poor protagonist (or telling him to run away before it's too late...) There are a few recurring phrases that resonate nicely... particularly the last line.
