This story explores one of the parallel universe possibilities available in the Stargate universe -- what if the Stargate had been dug up by Napoleon? The author takes this interesting premise, and gives us cool and logical consequences, taking into account various things we know about the Stargate universe. We get world building, exotic settings, derring-do, twists, torture, treachery, scheming, redemption, the renewal of hope -- and good banter.
"Hey, Danny; remember the first time this happened to us?"
"Back when we were taken before Ra? Sure I remember; I got killed. Believe me, you never forget the first time you die."
"Fair point," Jack acknowledged. "I know I remember mine."
"Mind you," Daniel added, as they walked. "The second time sticks in the mind as well. And the third..."

That wasn't the only one; for example I laughed aloud at the bit where Jack quotes a line from an Abba song because he doesn't know any French...

There were a couple of points where I misunderstood what was going on until a couple of paragraphs later, but it wasn't a big problem.
